How to Deter Mice from Entering Your Property

• Seal Entry Points – Carefully inspect the exterior of your property – including doors, windows, pipes, and vents. Mice can squeeze through holes as small as a pencil width. Seal any cracks or openings using caulk, steel wool, or expanding foam.
• Install Door Brushes – Make sure all external doors have proper brush strips or sweeps fitted to eliminate gaps underneath. This is a simple but effective deterrent.
• Maintain Landscaping – Keep trees, shrubs, and climbing plants trimmed back from your home. Overhanging branches and overgrown vegetation provide mice with ideal cover and access to your roofline.
• Keep Food Storage Secure – Store all food – including dry goods – in sealed, airtight containers. Avoid leaving food out on counters, and clean up crumbs and spills quickly, especially in kitchens and pantries.
• Store Pet Food Properly – Pet food is just as appealing to mice as your own. Always store it in lidded containers and never leave it out overnight.
• Practice Good Waste Management – Ensure outdoor bins have tight-fitting lids and remove rubbish regularly. Overflowing waste or exposed bin bags are a major attraction for rodents.
• Clean Regularly – Deep clean less-frequented areas like lofts, garages, and under appliances. Mice love to nest in cluttered, undisturbed spaces.
• Use Rodent-Proof Materials – Install wire mesh or other barriers in areas where pipes, cables, or air bricks provide access from the outside. These materials prevent mice from chewing their way in.
